Over 2000 West Papuan university students have returned home from Indonesian cities since last month over safety fears.

Racist harassment of Papuan students in university dormitories in Javanese cities last month sparked weeks of widespread protests and unrest in Papua.
While Indonesian police have started investigations into the harassment, many students claim they continue to face threats and feel unsafe.
As of Monday, 2047 students had been recorded by Papua’s provincial government as having left their studies to return to their home region since August.
The majority of the students are from Highlands regencies in Papua.
Last month, in response to the harassment, Papua’s Governor Lukas Enembe offered support to students who wished to return home from Java.

As we celebrate our political independence 44 years ago, let us look forward at least 44 years from now, how far we have come, and have far we have to go from here:
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea politically;
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea socially;
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea culturally;
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea technologically;
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea scientifically;
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea spiritually, mentally and emotionally; and
To free Melanesians in the Isle of New Guinea economically.
While celebrating our political independence, we are reminded of our job to free our Melanesian countries and our Melanesian people in other aspects of lives, until finally all Melanesians are free, and all Melanesia is free, in all aspects of life, at all levels of life.
From the Central Headquarters of the WPRA, an affiliate Command of the West Papua Army (WPA), I, the Secretary-General of the WPRA, hereby would like to invite Melanesians in Papua New Guinea to finish our job to free New Guinea from any kinds, forms and levels of colonialism on our Island.
Let us raise up beyond fear, as Hon. Powed Parkop, MP has invited us to to so. Let us come out bringing solutions to all big powers in the world, to Indonesians and to Melanesians, that West Papua independence is part of the independence of all parties. West Papua independence is not a problem, but it is a solution for all parties, and particularly for us living on this beautiful, peaceful, healthy Island of New Guinea.

Konflik terkait Papua di Indonesia tidak hanya terjadi jalanan lewat aksi protes dan pengerahan militer Indonesia, tapi juga di dunia maya, menurut seorang penyelidik independen.
Kepada ABC, Benjamin mengaku telah melakukan investigasi pada seluruh unggahan di Twitter dengan tag #WestPapua dan #FreeWestPapua, antara tanggal 29 Agustus hingga 2 September.
Data yang ia miliki kemudian divisualisasikan dengan menggunakan sebuah program online.
“Saya kemudian dapat melakukan analisa network untuk melihat siapa para influencer dari dua topik tadi,” ujar Ben yang juga kontributor Bellingcat, sebuah situs jurnalisme investigasi dan pengecekan fakta yang berbasis di Inggris.
Benjamin mengaku ia menemukan banyak otomotisasi yang datang dari sebuah newtork.
“Setelah diselidiki mereka semua adalah bots yang mempromosikan kegiatan pemerintah Indonesia di Papua Barat.”
Lantas darimanakah Benjamin mengetahui jika akun-akun tersebut adalah bot?
Dari penyelidikannya ia menemukan penggunaan foto palsu dalam akun-akun tersebut, dengan menggunakan foto dari bintang pop di Korea Selatan atau Jepang, hingga foto warga biasa di Amerika Serikat.
Akun-akun tersebut juga menurutnya mengunggah di waktu yang sama, dengan pola, jenis konten dan pola algoritma yang sama. Mereka juga terkait dengan akun-akun di jejaring sosial lainnya, seperti di Facebook dan Instagram.
“Kebanyakan material tersebut adalah konten video infografik yang menunjukkan kinerja yang dilakukan pemerintah di papua,” ujarnya.
“Atau soal dana yang digelontorkan untuk membantu pelajar Papua dan bagimana warga Papua menghromati bendera Indonesia dan bangga sebagai bagian dari Indonesia.”
Meski ia tidak mengatakan akun-akun bot ini dibuat pemerintah Indonesia, tapi menurutnya jaringan ini memiliki agenda, yakni mendukung pemerintah Indonesia.
“Mereka mencoba memutarbalikkan kenyataan apa yang sebenarnya terjadi di Papua.”
Yang membuat menarik bagi Benjamin adalah beberapa konten menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dan banyak dari akun-akun Twitter tersebut baru dibuat dalam tiga bulan terakhir.
“Jadi saat jurnalis independen ingin tahu soal apa yang terjadi di Papua lewat Twitter dengan kata kunci ‘West Papua’, maka yang ditemukan adalah betapa hebat dan baiknya pemerintah Indonesia terhadap warga Papua.”
Benjamin mengatakan ia sengaja menyampaikan penyelidikannya lengkap dengan langkah-langkah cara melakukannya, termasuk di situs Bellingcat.
“Jika ada yang ingin menyerang hasil temuan saya, mereka bisa mengikuti langkah-langkah yang saya jelaskan dan akan melihat jika hasilnya sama.”
Ia mengaku telah banyak mendapatkan tanggapan, termasuk ancaman dari pengguna jejaring sosial di Indonesia, namun beberapa diantaranya pun ia identifikasi sebagai akun bot.
Beberapa akun bot sudah dinyatakan ‘suspended’ di Twitter dan hal ini hanya bisa dilakukan oleh pihak Twitter sendiri.
Gen. Amunggut Tabi says such a statement clearly indicates Indonesian people the Nazi of this era. Not many people in the world realize this. The Indonesian government have long practiced apartheid in West Papua and across Indonesia. This is real in the South Pacific, and that Indonesia sees all non-Malays in South Pacific as “non-humans”.
West Papua Army fights in defending the dignity and integrity of all black, white, red, green, and any colours as human beings, with the same and equal rights to be fully recognised and treated as fellow human beings. Therefore, we condemn Indonesian Nazi community and apartheid government in West Papua.

The West Papua Revolutionary Army (WPRA), an affiliate command of the West Papua Army (WPA) hereby would like to congratulate the victory that West Papuan peoples have just achieved in the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) this week.
The key members of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), the Chair Benny Wenda, Spokesperson Jacob Rumbiak and Treasurer Paula Makakobry were all present at the meeting.
The issue of West Papuan human rights violations is getting full attention at the South Pacific level, where the PIF has an official voice at the United Nations body.
WPRA Secretary-General, Gen. Amunggut Tabi says,
“This is a victory that all Melanesians should remember. We have won politically at the MSG level, and we are now stepping upward, stepping forward, and stepping at wider levels of our politics and diplomacy.
This is the time for us all to thank God for what the Most High Revolutionary Supreme Commander is doing through His interventions. All Melanesian leaders who do not support this struggle will be kicked out from Melanesian politics. Those who speak for the cause will enjoy their lives in this body and after they die.”
Gen. Tabi closes his statement by saying that there will be more victories to come, and therefore Malenesians in West Papua should be ready to celebrate and thankful to God.

West Papua Army was formed after a series of Extraordinary Summits held among the High Ranking Officials of the West Papua Revolutionary Army (WPRA), the armed wing of Free West Papua Campaign, West Papua National Liberation Army – Tentara Pembebasan Nasional Papua Barat (TPN PB) – Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) and West Papua National Army – Tentara Nasoinal Papua Barat (TNPB) of the Federal Republic of West Papua.

Brief history of Free Papua Movement and OPM
This note ays that OPM was never been set up with Constitution, but only by wording, any organisations campaigning for West Papua independence is called organisation for Free West Papua, or Organisasi Papua Merdeka (henceforth OPM). There is no by-laws or legal product that ever been produced by anyone in the Free Papua Movement explaining about the “OPM”.
It is clearly a “public” wording, to name Wets Papua organisations, given by those who watch or monitor, or want to control or support any organisations campaigning for Wet Papua Independence.We can also say that it is a result of media naming for all organisations campaigning for West Papua independence as Organisations for Papua Merdeka (OPM). Politically speaking one can speculate that the name “OPM” was not created by West Papuans, but it was implanted by either foreigners, invisible hands or interest groups, outside of West Papuan peoples or organisations.
The only organisation that has by-laws (constitution) is the FPM (Free Papua Movement) and the Provisional / Transitional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of West Papua) with the constitution called Provisional Constitution of the Republic of West Papua.
It says clearly in the FPB bylaw that OPM )Organisasi Papua Merdeka) has never been established so far therefore, there is a need to establish FPM, which was formed on July 15, 1977.
In July 1, Constitution of the Provisional Government, there is no mention at all about the name OPM, or any other organisation at all.
Another important point to note is that both Provisional Revolutionary Government of TPN/ Marvic/ Roemkorem is still exist to this date, which according to Port Vila Declaration between Prai and Romekorem was assigned to handle the military campaigns of the Free Papa Movement. Whereas the PEMKA, de-facto party of Jacob Prai was assigned to deal with political matters to free West Papua.
The author’s legal perspective suggests that there is a need to reconcile, legally with political decisions by this generation to both implement the Port Vila Declaration with the history that we have created along our struggle, and at the same time not going back to the past but move forward with the current political breakthroughs and events evolving in this generation in order to not only legally maintain the constitutionalism of our movement but also to catch up with the current development and trends in order to win the battle.

On one hand, there is clearly an urgent need for all West Papuan independence fighters and organisations to be consistent and at the same time constitutionally rational in following up the struggle to free West Papua. There is a need to re-visit the history and re-position newly formed organisations within the context of our history.
On the other hand, all parties need to understand what is happening today as phenomenon that needs space and management to open the dialogues and consolidation.
One thing is obvious, we cannot undo all that have happened so far, but another thing is also clear, that we need to embrace all parties without forgetting the history of the struggle and legal aspects of all of our organisations and activities.
We are pro-longing our way into a free and independent West Papua, not the Malay-Indos.

Hon. Benny Wenda has been promoting
human rights and self-determination of the West Papuan peoples though an
international Supervised Vote in West Papua, supported by Parliamentarians in
England, Europe, Melanesian countries and African-Caribbean countries.
Hon. Benny Wenda is envisioning a
free and independent Republic West Papua applying what his previous Freedom
of Oxford City Award Winner, the Late Nelson Mandela’s Tribal
Model of Democracy where the principal leaders are guiding the people
from behind the crowd, not leading in front.
